Birchills Junction

Birchills Junction (grid reference SK002000) is the canal junction at the northern limit of what is now called the Walsall Canal where it meets the Wyrley and Essington Canal main line, near Walsall, West Midlands, England.

Historically the Birchills Branch of the Wyrley and Essington ran from Sneyd Junction to Bloxall Wharf, north-west of Walsall. When the Wryley and Essington Extension Canal was authorised, it ran from Birchills Junction on the Birchills Branch to Huddlesford: most of the Birchills Branch was effectively subsumed into the new mainline of the Wyrley and Essington. Thus the junction was with what became the mainline of the Wyrley and Essington, and the stub branch to Bloxall Wharf.
